About

OFF THE 99 is a hub for news and action in occupied Miwuk and Yokut territory, otherwise known as the Central Valley of so-called California. This site is aimed at fostering solidarity and mutual aid between the various groups and currents fighting for collective liberation.

Since the invasion of non-Natives, the Central Valley has become a base for resource extraction and the production of mass wealth and commodities, both during the Gold Rush and now through the agricultural industry, which plays a central role in the world economy. Despite this wealth, the region has always been poor and divided along lines of race, and built atop the genocide and stolen land of the Native people. OFF THE 99 is a nod to this reality; our region has been carved up and developed by the very forces which exploit, divide, and oppress us, growing rich and powerful through the destruction of what was once a vast wetland, now a massive, toxic sinkhole.

In the face of an increasingly bold and violent far-Right with the implicit and explicit backing of the police, increasing State surveillance of social movements under the Biden administration, and liberals stepping to the sidelines in support of the new administration in Washington, we believe it is imperative to organize ourselves into an effective force to combat the new realities of growing fascism, State repression, climate disaster, and neo-liberal capitalism.

Against all forms of coercive hierarchy, oppression, essentialism, and domination, we endorse no leaders or politicians, formal or informal, popularly elected or self-appointed. Always in the spirit of self-determination, autonomy, and direct action–

TOWARD TOTAL LIBERATION. FOR A FUTURE WORTH LIVING.
